Parksville Fire Rescue reminds residents no fireworks or open burning

Parksville Fire Rescue reminds residents all open burning and outdoor fires, excluding cooking fires, are prohibited in the Parksville Fire Protection Area.

Beach fires in the Parksville Qualicum Wildlife Management are prohibited by provincial legislation and this includes all beaches from French Creek to Resort Drive, according to a news release by the fire department.

As provided in the outdoor burning bylaw, campfires are allowed at this time.

Bylaws affecting the Parksville Fire Protection Area include City of Parksville Bylaw No. 1428, Regional District of Nanaimo Bylaw No. 922 (Burning in Parksville Area) and Regional District of Nanaimo Bylaw No. 920 (Burning in French Creek Area).

The sale of any type of fireworks is prohibited in Parksville and all fireworks are banned within city limits. This includes the possession of consumer fireworks and fireworks should not be purchased elsewhere and brought into Parksville.

A person must not fire or discharge fireworks unless authorized by a permit (permits are only issued to applicants with a fireworks supervisor and/or pyrotechnics certification card as issued by Natural Resources Canada). The City of Parksville Fireworks Bylaw No. 1427 may be viewed online.

The Parksville Fire Protection Area encompasses the City of Parksville and contract areas within the RDN which include San Pareil, Morningstar, Columbia Beach, French Creek, and the Fourneau Road, Wildgreen and Martindale Road areas as well as the Forever Green Estates.
