Peter McCully has been a broadcaster and publisher on both coasts and has owned a small newspaper and run an advertising agency along the way. Peter is an amateur photographer and serves as a bass drummer for the Mt Arrowsmith Pipes and Drums.

Brenda joined The News in 2007 bringing with her a strong background in customer service and client relationships. She is a dedicated team player who is focused on providing top quality advertising advice to her clients. She is active in the local community as a volunteer, currently serving as a Director for Fire and Ice. John  Harding Editor
John Harding
John has been a journalist for more than 25 years, including seven years as a managing editor of three Canadian daily newspapers, in Kelowna, Prince George and St. Catharines. You will most likely see him at the many community events The NEWS covers, as well as the golf course. In addition to directing all newsroom operations and doing general news reporting/photography, John covers Parksville city hall, writes The NEWS editorials and handles our vibrant Letters to The Editor pages. John won the B.C./Yukon Newspaper Association's Ma Murray Award for editorial writing in 2015.

Auren Ruvinsky started at The NEWS in 2009. He covers the Regional District of Nanaimo, the environment and a myriad of other beats.

Lauren Collins
Lauren joined The NEWS team in March of 2016 after working various freelance jobs in Surrey. Her primary task is to cover the vibrant arts and entertainment scene in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area. She also covers Qualicum Beach town hall.

J.R. Rardon
J.R. joined the NEWS team in 2015 after serving as reporter, photographer and editor at Black Press community papers in Port Hardy and Campbell River. He worked as a sportswriter for several daily papers in the U.S. before relocating to Vancouver Island with his family in 2006. He covers the mid-Island’s vibrant sports community, the crime beat, school district and other local events.

Steve   Weldon Advertising Representative
Steve Weldon
Steve Weldon returns to The NEWS as Sales Representative. Steve held the positions of Sales Representative and Sales Manager in the 16 years he worked for The NEWS. Steve comes from the position of Business Development Manager with Viviti Technologies Inc. in Parksville. When he is not working, you are likely to find Steve mowing his endless lawn or taking his evening walk somewhere in our beautiful area.

Peggy Sidbeck
Peggy has worked in a production environment since the the early '70s, starting with a jazz magazine in Toronto. Moving to British Columbia in 1977, she worked for the Kelowna Capital News for many years, finally settling on Vancouver Island and working for the News since 2002. She enjoys gardening, getting serious about the Slow Food movement, and spending time with her spouse and their three cats.
Lori   Hague Advertising Representative
Lori Hague
Lori and her family have lived in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area for almost 10 years. Before moving to Vancouver Island, she held several positions as a sales representative and customer service representative in Vancouver. Lori is familiar with small business as she is the former owner and operator of Qualicum Window Coverings. Most days you'll see Lori around town, or find her with her family at track meets and volleyball tournaments.
