Turning a passion into a business
Ever since Brian Heck and Camilla Stephan moved to Qualicum Beach a year ago, this has been their head office for WineRunners, a distribution company with stores in B.C. and Alberta.
Stephan says they once travelled around the world — mostly to California — on wine trips. Often, they were asked about distributing different products in Canada. Soon, she said, they decided to leave their former careers and venture into a job that mirrors their passion for wine.
“The business took a life of its own,” Stephan said.
For the last five years, the couple have scoured the world for unique wines and other liquors to sell in western Canada.
“We only distribute wines that we would drink ourselves,” she said.
Those include some finds they have made in Spain and Portugal — regional Stephan said will be soon making a splash in the wine world. Find WineRunners at www.winerunners.ca. — The News
