Parksville couple honoured by SPCA
Bob and Sheila Dale of Parksville were honoured by the BC SPCA at a special ceremony in Vancouver on June 1 in recognition of their outstanding work on behalf of animals in need.
The hard-working couple, who have helped the society raise more than $75,000 since 2006, received the society’s Volunteer of the Year Award.
“Bob and Sheila are exemplary volunteers who lead quietly by example in our community and our shelter,” said Nadine Durante, manager, BC SPCA Parksville-Qualicum District Branch. “They are extremely hard-working, organized, friendly people who create a positive impression of the BC SPCA for everyone they meet.”
Since 1997, this hardworking duo has offered their time and skills for a wide range of activities at the branch, including dog walking, helping with fundraising events, writing thank you letters to donors and helping with building projects at the shelter.
But Sheila and Bob Dale are probably best known for coordinating and overseeing the branch’s annual flea market and book sale. The Dales spend hundreds of hours throughout the year collecting, sorting, pricing and transporting items for the sale. The sale raises between $7,000 and $15,000 every year.
