Firefighter toy drive gears up in Parksville

The Parksville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual food and toy drive is gearing up for Nov. 17-18 with the support of at least one local business which is challenging others to join.

Leading up to the big weekend people can drop any non-perishable food items and/or new, unwrapped toys at the fire hall, Salvation Army Food Bank (886 Wembley Road), or Chameleon’s Restaurant (220 West Island Highway).

Next week Quality Foods will provide paper grocery bags in local newspapers, and then over the Nov. 17 weekend fire department volunteers will circulate through the city from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. knocking on doors and collecting the bags from door steps and carports.

Cash donations, of course,  are also gratefully accepted.

Chameleon’s co-partner Carol Murchison said they will give a free dessert with their meal to anyone who brings in a toy and she challenges other business to join the effort.
