The Old School House is looking fresh and funky.

That’s because the art centre was recently painted inside, given new carpeting and had a modern countertop installed. The majority of the materials were donated and the work done by volunteers.

“It’s been a great boost for us,” said executive director of The Old School House (TOSH) Corinne James.

James said she has thought for some time that the front lobby at TOSH would look wonderful with a marble countertop, but she didn’t think the centre could afford it. That was until Robyn Schreyer at R&R Restorations stepped forward to donate the materials and labour to install the piece, along with some materials from TOSH volunteer Maire Watson. The result is an angled white marble counter designed by Schreyer that exceeded James of hopes of making the centre “fresh and funky.”

Quest for Colour in Parksville also came through for the arts centre and donated paint, labour and materials to help spruce the place up and put in new carpet.

“It’s wonderful when the businesses support non-profits,” said James.

The renovations inside now match the renovations done to the outside of the building a couple of years ago, said James.
