Memoirs, poetry, writing

Nanaimo’s first poet laureate, Naomi Beth Wakan, will be doing a reading from her book of memoirs at the Qualicum Beach Library on Sept. 11.

Wakan, 83, was named the inaugural poet laureate of Nanaimo by The City of Nanaimo last year, which runs a three year term.

The Gabriola Island resident will be reading from her recent book of memoirs, Some Sort of Life on Sept. 11, discussing life in general, the poetry of aging and memoir writing.

Wakan is known for thoughtful, witty and fun presentations.

Wakan has 24 books in the Vancouver Island Regional Libraries.

The free event takes place at 2 p.m.
