Rosemary Lindsay has been directing the Village Voices community choir since 2007 and she will be stepping down in that role after a final performance Sunday, April 27 in Qualicum Beach.

The singers recently went on a choir exchange to Tsawwassen to be part of a benefit concert for Builders Without Borders with The Richmond Singers on April 12. The Richmond Singers will be now be performing with the Village Voices on April 27.

“It’s kind of a nice swan song for me,” said Lindsay.

Lindsay is taking a leave of absence from the choir to direct the VIU College Singers. She has been teaching private voice lessons at Vancouver Island University since 2005 and she’ll be filling in for another professor who is taking a leave from his position as choir director.

“It’s a great opportunity and I’m just really looking forward to planting the seeds of how joyful choral community is into the hearts and minds and voices of the younger generation,” she said

Last year Lindsay took over as director of the jazz choir at the university and will continue in that role.

She said she will miss the members of the Village Voices.

“It’s a wonderful group to work with, I’ve thoroughly enjoy it, they are just very cheerful, and they work hard and get stuff done,” she said. The group currently has about 55 people in the choir.

Lindsay said she’s leaving it open whether she returns to the Village Voices, so there is a chance she will be back with the group.

But for now her last concert with Village Voices, called Water of Life, will take place at the Christian Fellowship Centre at 825 Village Way in Qualicum Beach at 2:30 p.m. on April 27.

The theme of the concert will be water and it will include everything from Broadway tunes to Disney music and spirituals.

A suggested donation of $10 will be appreciated at the door.
