Saving a home

A beer, burger and silent auction fundraiser in Nanaimo will help an elderly couple from that community save their home.

The News ran a story last December about the family, the Passarellos, whose house was left gutted after a Parksville builder went bankrupt during construction.

A number of local businesses stepped in to help make the house livable at that time. Funds are still needed to complete the home.

The fundriaser will take place Friday, May 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Howard Johnson restaurant.

A $20 ticket includes a burger, beer and live music, or guests can pay $30 and also receive a ticket to the Bodacious Burlesque Benefit upstairs (worth another $20). That event begins at 8:30 p.m.

Get tickets and more information from the Howard Johnson restaurant at 1 Terminal Ave in Nanaimo or by calling 250-591-4858.
