Des Kennedy presents his new book to QB tonight

A celebrated Canadian journalist, environmentalist and broadcaster is introducing his new book at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre tonight.

Des Kennedy’s new book Heart & Soil: The Revolutionary Good of Gardens shares Kennedy’s experiences tending his spectacular garden for over forty years.

The book is a collection of short essays drawn from articles composed over the last decade and showcases both Kennedy’s wit and wisdom.

His stories are said to be heartwarming, inspiring and often comical as he reflects on topics from conquering clay to loving ladybugs to creating an asparagus bed for the ages.

The book is complete with an insert of colour photographs that depict the flourishing garden oasis created by Des and his wife Sandy on Denman Island.

Admission to Kennedy’s presentation May 22 is $5, free for Eaglecrest Garden Club members. The event begins at 7 p.m., door open at 6 p.m.

Kennedy will be available to personalize copies of his book, published by Harbour Publishing, in advance of his presentation.

Kennedy is the author of five books of essays including his memoir, The Way of a Gardener, and three novels including Climbing Patrick’s Mountain.

He is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster and environmental activist, a three-time Stephen Leacock Award nominee and has been a columnist for the Globe and Mail and for CBC Television.
