150-strong choir visits Port

A choir with over 150 singers from around Vancouver Island is performing a concert at the Port Theatre on June 8 and the focus will be on irrepressible joy.

The Island Soul Choir performed for sold-out crowds last fall and the group will return June 8 at 2:30 p.m. with a new program of spirituals, soul, pop, blues and jazz. Choir director Karla Mundy has selected beautiful and powerful melodies and vocal arrangements, with a variety of styles, tempos, grooves and traditions, all surrounding the theme, joy.

The Oceanside Grandmothers to Grandmothers will be at the event selling homemade and artisan crafts in the theatre’s lobby. Tickets are $22.50 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Get them at www.porttheatre.com or by calling 250-754-8550. For more on the Soul Choir, visit islandsoulchoir.com.
