Duo from Norway plays Coombs Market

Pianist and accordionist Knut Erik Jensen and violinist/Hardanger fiddle player Skogen Sällström play a variety of Norwegian music with roots in Scandinavia’s traditional folk music.

Full of youthful energy, Sällström and Jensen will perform their interpretation of a selection of folk tunes known as Slåtter alongside popular works by Ole Bull, Edvard Grieg, and contemporary Sturla Eide.

A special feature of their performance is the Hardanger fiddle, Norway's unique traditional instrument that has eight or nine strings.

As different rhythms and motifs are bowed on the four primary strings, additional under-strings resonate to create rich tones typical of its style.

The duo will also be playing in Maffeo Sutton Park Lion’s Pavillion in Nanaimo from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. Both shows are free to attend.
