An Italian-themed event will help raise money to build affordable housing for seniors in Bowser.

The Bowser Seniors Housing Society is presenting Mama Mia, an Italian Festa by the Bay at the Lighthouse Community Hall on Saturday, July 26.

The event will include locally catered food by the Bowser Legion’s Ladies Auxillary: lasagna, caesar salad, garlic bread and ice cream.

A duo called Duo de Jour, featuring Marjorie Cullerne and Peter Wilk, will entertain on violin and accordion at the event.

“They are basically going to roam between the tables and do a little vocals and basically it will be all Italian-themed music.”

Cullerne has a masters degree in music history and violin from Ohio State University and has performed professionally in Australia. Wilk moved to Nanaimo four years ago from Toronto. He began playing the accordion at age six and has performed solo and with ensembles in a variety of settings including cafes, theatres, and in choirs. He arranges piano music for the accordion and is known as a great improviser. He enjoys arranging tunes for the accordion from a number of musical genres and he sells the material.

The event will feature dancing and a silent auction with a variety of great experiences like a tour of Island Scallops and a bike and chocolate tour in Courtenay.

Tickets are $30 available from the Salish Sea Market in Bowser, Georgia Park Store in Bowser and Mulberry Bush Book Stores in Parksville and Qualicum Beach. To book a table of eight or 10 call 250-757-8117 or email events@bshs.ca. There will be no tickets at the door as organizers will have cut sales off prior to the event to prepare the accurate amount of food, Beadle said, so she encourages people to get tickets as soon as possible.

The BSHS has been fundraising for just over a year to help build affordable housing behind Magnolia Court in Bowser and this is the third entertainment event it has held. They have raised $25,000 with a total goal of $200,000.
