A fun quartet from the Sunshine Coast is bringing its new-grass, Latin and gypsy jazz sound to the McMillan Arts Centre this Sunday.

The Rakish Angles is a string band that formed in 2007 and since that time the group has earned nominations for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2009, Indie Acoustic Project Awards in 2009 and 2011 as well as Western Canadian Music Awards in 2010 and 2012.

Rakish is an adjective meaning, 'having or displaying a dashing, jaunty or slightly disreputable quality or appearance,’ and although the band reputes to embody the first part of the definition, they describe themselves as “family people” rather than disreputable.

“They themselves are warm, wooden-timbered, natural, mysterious folk—much like the place where they live,” reads the group’s biography.

The Rakish Angles are playing Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at the MAC, tickets are $15, $12 for OCAC members.

Purchase them from the MAC at 133 McMillan St. For more on the group visit www.rakishangles.com.
