As local farms are gearing up for their harvest festivals, a different sort of harvest is being prepared for in the heart of Qualicum Beach.

The Old School House Arts Centre’s 10th annual Harvest of Music festival will take place from Oct. 17-19 this year.

On Friday night the show kicks off with a classical concert by the internationally celebrated Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet from Saint Petersburg, Russia. The first half of the concert will include esteemed Russian/Canadian pianist Eugene Skovorodnikov.

On Saturday the noontime concert will be a Spotlight on Youth featuring young West Vancouver classical pianist Jeffrey Luo. At the age of fourteen he has already garnered prestigious awards in major international piano competitions. Two jazz shows will follow on Saturday, at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. with Minneapolis vocalist Debbie Duncan. Her band members include Ron Hadley, Seattle bassist Jeff Johnson and Vancouver drummer Buff Allen.

The festival winds up at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday with a multi-genre concert by the acclaimed Vivenza ensemble. Before the group retired it was known as Canada's premier salon music group for more than twenty-five years. For the second time in about five years, TOSH has coaxed the group into a special reunion concert in its intimate gallery setting. For more on the Harvest of Music visit www.harvestofmusic.com.
