Ian Tamblyn to perform in house concert

House concert coming up

Adventurer, playwright and musician Ian Tamblyn will be performing his music at a house concert hosted by Joyce Beaton April 21.

A writer-in-residence at Carleton University, the Canadian folk musician has released 38 albums, and has also written 15 plays. Tickets for the concert are $25, with all money going to Tamblyn.

Tickets and the concert location can be found by emailing beatonqualicum@gmail.com.

The doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting a half-hour later.

Medieval and Spanish Blues

International touring guitarist Claude Bourbon will be performing at the McMillan Arts Centre on April 21 for Folk at the MAC.

The musician has played in venues from the Glastonbury Festival to Switzerland and beyond. He is coming to Parksville from Germany.

Bourbon’s performances take blues, Spanish, Middle Eastern and Russian stylings to new places.

Tickets are $15 or $12 for OCAC members. The performance starts at 7 p.m.

Art sale in Nanoose

The Nanoose Bay Art Group’s 24th annual Art Show and Sale is coming up on April 22 and 23.

A group of 16 artists will have more than 100 paintings of various sizes on display, as well as art cards.

The artists will also be in attendance. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission and refreshments are free.

Fine art show

Professional artists Nancy Day, Carmen Mongeau and Barbara Ann Scott will be presenting new works during an open studio fine art show on April 29 and 30.

The third-annual show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the West Wing Gallery at Nanoose Place.

There will also be a draw for original works of art.

Odin’s Dottirs

Tales for the Telling presents Lovers and Other Demons: Woven Words of Odin’s Dottirs.

The telling of mythical stories from Icelandic and Norse heritage will be shared by Karen Gummo of Calgary and Faye Mogensen of Victoria.

Gummo’s Danish and Icelandic heritage provide her with sagas of the vikings and the people of Scandinavia. Mogensen is a Director of Spiritual Learning at the First Unitarian Church of Victoria, and holds an M. Ed. in stories and drama as tools for learning.

The performance is on April 28 at the MAC. tickets are $15 or $12 for OCAC members. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
