Highway becoming a racetrack

I have travelled daily from Qualicum Beach to Nanaimo for the last 20 years and feel it is necessary to comment on changes I have witnessed on the highway.

Volume has increased exponentially along with the speed of the traffic. There is a 90 km/h from the Parksville weigh scales, where I enter, up to Lantzville with a 60 km/h in Nanoose.

During morning rush hour I keep to the inside slow lane whilst the majority of vehicles race past at speeds often exceeding 110 km/h.

Not only are vehicles speeding but many have headlights, brake lights and taillights not working.

Never do I see highway police at this time of day pulling cars over for infractions. I do not understand why we do not have inspection stations here. Hence I can only presume that the police are responsible now to see that cars are operating safely.

If cars are not safe then how are they allowed to be insured? Perhaps someone can provide answers to these questions.

I have spoken to many people who are also concerned about the highway becoming a racetrack and now fear driving on it also.
