Re: ‘The whining season is upon us’ (Letters, PQB News, Nov. 13)

I assume you missed the news the World Health Organization has advised the ‘developed’ world to phase out woodstoves for the sake of climate and health.

A 2017 Health Canada study showed that an increase in fine particulate matter specifically due to burning in winter was associated with a 19 per cent increase in hospitalization for heart attacks among seniors.

But it is not only seniors being affected, it’s everyone’s health that is being degraded. So no it’s not the whining season it’s the season of increased hospital visits.

The World Health Organization summit on air pollution just ended with advice to “place pressure on your city governments to monitor, identify and eliminate sources of toxic pollution.”
