Re: ‘QB leases old fire hall’

B.C. has been labelled the drug capital of Canada and now the Town of Qualicum Beach is going to lease a portion of the old fire hall allowing for a retail cannabis store.

If I’m not mistaken, didn’t this building have all kinds of structural and seismic issues?

Why does Qualicum Beach require a cannabis store? This is a mind-boggling decision to this senior unless I’m running around with the wrong group of seniors.

In a Town that will not allow a Tim Hortons, Starbucks or for that matter any form of box retail outlet, it seems incomprehensible to me that it is set to open a cannabis outlet.

The article states, “As a landlord, we feel more comfortable introducing this industry to the town through our own property.”

So now it’s not just a retail outlet or a store, it’s now an industry they are intent on backing. The article also discusses that the store will provide a revenue stream to support any increased burden on the Town’s bylaw compliance department. How’s this – don’t open the store and you won’t have any increased burden to the bylaw office.

The article was vague on whether the outlet was for recreational cannabis or medical marijuana. I makes no difference to me as I would have preferred a Tim Hortons as I’m sure many others would.
