Referendum reasoning weak

While I’m not a big fan of First Past the Post, the reasoning behind the current referendum on changing the way we vote is dumbfounding.

While I’m not a big fan of First Past the Post, the reasoning behind the current referendum on changing the way we vote is dumbfounding.

First of all, mail-in balloting has a notoriously poor result, usually less than 50%.

This referendum requires only a 50% + 1 result to pass, so about 25% of the electorate could vote for a change. Then those 25% will choose one of three options—let’s say 40% of the 25% will choose one option which will then be used to run the next election. Forty per cent of 25% is only 10% of the electorate. We’ve never elected a government for which only 10 % had voted.

Obviously, the only choice is to vote “no” on Question No. 1.
