Street party plan for Parksville
Some of Parksville’s resort managers have come together and plans are well underway for a big street party on Resort Drive in September and even more events in the future.
Parksville’s Resort Drive Community consists of all resorts in the vicinity and includes Ocean Trails Resort, Oceanside Village Resort, Beach Acres Resort, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre, Sunrise Ridge Resort, Madrona Beach Resort and Ocean Sands Resort.
The group’s goal is to offer some free events on the properties that make up Parksville’s Resort Drive Community.
Spokesperson, Robynne Shaw, General Manager of Sunrise Ridge Resort said that all the resorts on Resort Drive are on board and they are very excited with the momentum so far.
“We have been meeting for several months now and as a group ... have looked at ways to collaborate in creating special events for locals and visitors alike,” she said.
Party on the Drive will be the first event and is scheduled for Sunday, September 9 from 1 to 9 p.m. It will bring Oceanside artists and musicians together in nature for a celebration of arts in the area.
Shaw said that they have beautiful sites that front Resort Drive and while summer is a very busy time, the events they will offer are intended to build out the existing season. “Basically, we just want to have some fun on the drive and share our community with everyone.”
Shaw added that the focus for the artists will be around an Oceanside theme using various mediums.
“We have invited photographers, painters and other artists who reflect life in Oceanside through their artwork.”
The various stages throughout the event will see local musicians performing a variety of genres including jazz, folk, rock and ambient music.
To round out the offerings, food vendors will be located at various resorts selling tasty treats.
Local artists and food vendors interested in setting up in this natural environment must be self-contained and are encouraged to provide an inter-active component to their booth.
