A life-long passion
Children can learn to sing among friends in Parksville, thanks to a new children’s choir at the McMillan Arts Centre (MAC) taught by a well-known chorister and singer.
Rosemary Lindsay said she began singing in a choir herself at the age of eight and it was a life-changing experience that helped her come out of her shell. Lindsay has been teaching voice lessons for almost 30 years and although children enjoy one-on-one sessions, many thrive in group singing.
“[The children] enjoy it but I think there’s something about the community of singing with other kids too,” she said. “It becomes a life-long passion if you can get in young enough.”
Also being a yoga teacher, Lindsay said she “comes at singing with the whole body,” and the course will involve some fun, physical activity. A short set of songs will be prepared during the12-week course for a year-end performance.
Supporting the MAC is also important to Lindsay and utilizing the amazing space available there, she said.
The choir is open to youngsters aged 7-14 and begins tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept.19.
