RCMP: PQB resident reports losing $23,500 in online cryptocurrency scam

Yet another Parksville Qualicum Beach resident has reported being the victim of an online scam.

According to Oceanside RCMP, the person reported being scammed of $23,500 responding to a cryptocurrency online company on March 5. The week before, another resident reported being scammed out of $55,000 after responding to a social media posting to invest in AI with cryptocurrency.

The latest reported scam was among 196 complaints received by RCMP the week of March 4 to March 10.

On March 5, a vehicle was reported vandalized with fuel stolen in the area of Bellevue Road and Alberni Highway in Parksville.

Two days later, a possible business break-and-enter was reported in the 1100 block of Smithers Road in Parksville. A suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Also March 7, both B.C. licence plates, NV8128, were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1300 block of Island Highway East of Parksville. The same day, two B.C. plates, HE755G, were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 3900 block of Island Highway West in Qualicum Beach; and front B.C. plate, MG4476, was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1300 block of Leffler Road in Errington. Rounding out the day’s licence plate thefts, front plate, JT315S, was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Lodgepole Drive in Parksville.

On March 8, A grey/silver 2013 Lexus RX35, B.C. plates PX733P, was reported stolen in the 1300 block of Cape Cod Drive in Parksville. The vehicle has not been recovered.

The next day, two vehicles were reported vandalized, with fuel stolen, in Qualicum Beach, the first in the 200 block of Judges Row and another in the 200 block of Higson Crescent.
