RCMP: Thieves, vandals target PQB businesses and homes, torch vehicle

Resident reports scammers trying to steal $97K

Thieves and vandals remain busy in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.

On March 19, an attemped break-and-enter was reported at a business in the 200 block of Island Highway East in Parksville. Damage to the front door and security bars was estimated at $3,000. The same day, a window of a business was reported smashed in the 100 block of Morison Avenue in Parksville.

The incidents were among 236 complaints received by Oceanside RCMP During the week of March 18 to March 24.

On March 21, an attempted scam was reported by a resident, stating online fraudsters alleging to be from a software company were trying to steal $97,300. The resident was responding to a popup computer security alert.

On March 18, a vehicle was reported vandalized, with damage to the wipers, in the 100 block of Cheney Street in Parksville. The same day in the city, a residential break-end-enter was reported, with power tools missing, in the 100 block of Hamilton Avenue.

The next day, a vehicle was reported vandalized with sand poured into the gas tank while in the parking lot of Rathtrevor Park in Parksville. One day later, a male dumpster diver was reported trespassing on private property in the 100 block of Island Highway West in Parksville.

On March 21, a seasonal residential break-and-enter was reported, with art work, antique table and other items missing, in the 3800 block of Horne Lake Caves Road in Qualicum Beach.

On March 23, a vehicle was reported torched just north of the Horne Lake Road exit on Highway 19 in Qualicum Beach. The same day, another vehicle was reported vandalized, with tires slashed, battery removed and B.C. licence plate VL1036 missing, in the 1000 block of Maclean Road in Qualicum Beach.
