The inaugural Gavin and Pat Reid Memorial Indoor Lawn Bowling Tournament had a great turnout in Qualicum Beach.

The tournament that was played March 16 and March 17 had teams coming from Victoria, Nanaimo, Parksville and also Qualicum Beach.

Organizer Nita Jack indicated participants enjoyed the two days of competition as well as the spirit of friendship and community.

Finishing in first place was the team of Dennis Verge, Gopal Gouda, and Brent Jansen beating the second-place team of Graham Fowler, Vern Hagstrom and Linda Cooper.

Grabbing third-place honours were Ziutka Hundley, James MacDonald and Lorane Martin, with fourth place going to Luci Ewen, Suzanne Ewen and Erik Ewen.

The tournament was in honour of Pat and Gavin Reid. Gavin was the man with the vision to include an indoor lawn bowling extension to the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club. He was the project manager who passed away earlier this year. His wife Pat passed away some years ago.

“We owe so much to this man,” said Jack. “And although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.”
