City hires a new engineer

After a two year vacancy Parksville has hired a director of engineering and operations.

Robert (Bob) Harary, a professional engineer from Cloverdale, California will start in early March.

“That’s how far afield we had to go,” said acting mayor Chris Burger, adding the “whole department will be in a much healthier state,” after the long hard search.

For most of last year the city’s two top engineering positions were vacant, until Vaughn Figueira was hired as the manager of engineering over the holidays.

“It’s a real testament to staff how they carried on with so many difficulties,” Burger said. “There’s some real superstars in the organization that can really bear down and do the work. If it wasn’t for our staff we would have been in a crisis situation.”

Watch The News for more details on Harary when he gets to town. Meanwhile the engineering and operation’s departments can be reached at the public works building at 1116 Herring Gull Way in the Industrial Park, 250-248-5412.
