Man injured in assault
One man is in custody after a vicious assault in Parksville early Wednesday morning.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said police were called to the 100 block of Corfield Street in Parksville at approximately 1 a.m. by a resident who could hear someone screaming for help, followed by what sounded like punching.
When police arrived at the scene they found a man suffering from trauma to his face and head. The victim was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he remains in stable condition.
Investigation into the attack led police to a residence in the Errington area, where Stephen Porter a 25 year old resident was arrested for the assault.
Van de Pol said the violence resulted in the theft of property belonging to the victim who, at the time of the attack, was walking along Corfield street.
Porter was held in police custody and appeared in Provincial Court in Nanaimo on Wednesday afternoon, March 2, 2011.
Porter has been charged with aggravated assault and robbery. He was remanded in custody and was slated to make a second appearance in provincial court on Friday.
The investigation into this incident will be ongoing including establishing what prompted the attack.
