Moorecroft fundraising underway

The Nature Trust of B.C. is kicking their campaign to raise money for Moorecroft Regional Park into high gear, and will be seeking support right away.

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and the Nature Trust announced the acquisition of Moorecroft Camp in Nanoose Bay last month with a price tag of $4.8 million. As part of the purchase agreement with the RDN, The Nature Trust agreed to fundraise to get $500,000 toward the purchase price.

The Nature Trust has now teamed up with the Nanaimo Area Land Trust, both non-profit charities, to raise as much money as possible.

Doug Walker, President and CEO of The Nature Trust, said before the announcement last month many people were keen on helping out with contributions.

“A lot of people said they wanted to help out and we’re saying to those people now here’s your opportunity to be part of history,” he said.

Walker said 100 per cent of money donated will go toward the project, helping the RDN pay for the property and make it safe for public use.

Tom Osborne, General Manager of Recreation and Parks Services with the RDN said the RDN is confident the Nature Trust will achieve its goal.
