Qualicm Beach student wins award
ACH — Kwalikum Secondary School grad Wade Van Herwaarden received the $1,000 Rene Savenye Scholarship from the Federation of BC Naturalists.
Presented by the Arrowsmith Naturalists, the award is named for Savenye, a noted B.C. paleo-naturalist who died in a lightning strike while hunting for fossils near Lake Louise. The award in his honour recognizes a BC student who enters studies which “contribute to an awareness, appreciation and an understanding of our natural environment.”
Van Herwaarden enters Vancouver Island University in September to begin studies in the Resource Management Officer Technology program.
