Two people were rushed to hospital after the car they were in was rear ended by a van on Highway 19A at Stanhope Road Friday morning.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said the crash took place at 7:37 a.m. when the female driver of the car pulled over to pick up someone in her car pool.

“Right as he jumped in — they hadn’t even got back onto the road — the driver of the van drifted over to the right and hit the rear end,” he said.

Both the occupants of the car were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the van was not injured but is facing a charge under the Motor Vehicle Act.

There was significant damage to both vehicles.
