Parents calling local daycare facilities in wake of strike notice
The Errington Childcare Centre located at Errington Elementary School has been getting quite a few calls ever since teachers in the province announced they are not going to be in their classrooms on March 5, 6 and 7.
Linda Doukakis said she is going to hire another staff person during the teachers walk-out so her facility can take care of more children.
She said the childcare centre is open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. but if new children are coming to the centre, parents need to be aware that they have to fill out a registration form.
She said in a group facility such as hers, the ratio for children is 12 to one and she has some space available.
Doukakis can be reached by calling 250-248-7210 or 250-240-7210.
Bowser Elementary School provides a range of child care services for parents. Kelly (who asked not to use her last name) at the Lighthouse Country Kids Place is hiring an extra child care worker so she can offer assistance to parents in the area.
Arrangements can be made by calling 250-757-8487.
The Children’s Discovery Centre at Qualicum Beach Elementary School will be providing care during the strike to their students already enrolled.
Susanna Jaeckel said she is limited to how many kids her facility can take. She suggested that parents who need childcare call her at 250-752-4343 to talk about arrangements.
