Green Party MP to speak in Parksville
When the the Arrowsmith and Nanoose Naturalists Clubs co-host the upcoming fall conference of the Federation of B.C. Naturalists in Parksville on Saturday, they will be welcoming a very special speaker to the podium.
Conference organizer Sally Dabb confirmed this week that Green Party MP Elizabeth May has agreed to give a speech at the event.
May’s speech is scheduled for 1 p.m.
May, a longtime environmental activist, is the Member of Parliament for the Saanich-Gulf Islands riding, and is the only Green Party member to be elected to the House of Commons.
That’s not the only highlight of the weekend, however.
Also speaking at the meeting will be high-profile environmentalist Rick Careless, author of To Save The Wild Earth and at 3:30 p.m. Rob Fleming, MLA, and Environmental Critic for the NDP will speak.
The conference, dubbed, Nature by the Salish Sea kicked off on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Quality Inn Bayside in Parksville.
The Keynote Address on Friday will be presented by Dr. C.S. Buzz Holling, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
His talk entitled Ecosystem Resilience is very appropriate, as B.C. Nature’s motto is “To know Nature and to keep it worth knowing.”
