Shots fired at house
A Qualicum Beach man is in custody facing charges of attempted murder after shots were fired at a residence on Kenmuir Road early Saturday morning.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said the shooting occurred just after midnight.
“A 56-year-old man had attended the residence where his ex-girlfriend resides,” Foreman said. “He proceeded to take several shots at the home with a high powered rifle before fleeing the area in his pickup truck.”
Inside the home, a 22-year-old man who was visiting at the time of the gunfire had been hit in the leg with a bullet. He was rushed by Ambulance to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and later airlifted to Royal Jubilee Hospital for surgery where he is currently recovering.
The 44-year-old woman, who was the only other person in the residence, was unharmed.
Police fanned out to search for the suspect and at 1:40 a.m. the suspect’s vehicle was spotted by an officer on patrol on Highway 19A in Qualicum Beach.
The Oceanside RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without incident after finding a loaded rifle in the pickup truck.
The suspect is being held in custody and will be attending B.C. Provincial Court in Nanaimo on Tuesday.
The Oceanside RCMP are recommending two counts of attempted murder. xxxx
