Radio After Dark returns with a holiday classic
Watch the live recreation of a classic holiday movie in Parksville as it would have appeared back in the Golden Age of radio.
The Gabriola-based acting troupe Radio After Dark is coming back to town after a sold out show at Halloween, with two shows of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer at the Black Goose Inn Dec. 17 and 18.
“We love doing it because it has some of the nicest little songs and a lot of fun sound-effects to do live, and some laugh-out-loud characters for us to portray,” said cast member Bill Miner.
Radio After Dark have been putting on Christmas show for nine years, and this one was a show-stopper a few years back, Miner said.
The group will be premiering it on the Island complete with live music, period costumes and wacky props to make all the wonderful sound effects in this old, classic holiday television special.
Miner said it’s a wonderful story where some quirky misfits find themselves ostracized and alone, but with some goodwill and determination they become heroes.
The highlight of the shows are often the hysterical bloopers, which Miner said people love and anticipate.
“Sometimes you're mid-sentence waiting for a sound effect and of course it's live and the gun doesn’t go off or instead of a gun it's a fog horn.”
Catch Radio After Dark’s production of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer at the Black Goose Inn at 25-1051 Resort Drive in Parksville Monday, Dec. 17 and Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
They will also perform at Fibber Magees in Nanaimo this Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
