The Parksville Beach Festival Society is already working hard on this summer's big event and this year they are looking for a theme for the sand artists.

The 2013 Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition is set for July 13 to August 18 on Parksville beach and organizers are looking for a common theme again this year.

"It isn't every year that we require our master sand sculptors to design their sculptures based on a theme, but we are pleased about making 2013 a theme year," said event manager Trish Smith.

Everyone is encouraged to visit www.parksvillebeachfest.ca to vote for their favourite option or suggest a new one.

The current choices are: Fun in the Sun, Under the Sea, Wonders of the World and Fairy Tales.

Society president Cheryl Dill said she is pleased with how the plans are shaping up for this summer.

"New and experienced board members are discussing fresh ideas for our five-week-long event and there will be more activities for local residents this year," she said.

They are currently focused on recruiting the best sculptors from around the world and will reveal more details in the spring.
