Community award finalists announced in QB

The Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce has released the names of the finalists for its 2012 Community Awards to be presented at a gala event Feb. 20 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

Each year the Chamber honours individuals and businesses for their contribution to the community following a nomination period during which residents and visitors are encouraged to nominate those they consider deserving of recognition.

The nominees are (look to upcoming editions of The NEWS for more on these nominees):

New Business of the Year — Let's Knit, The Edge Food Energy Company, Mo's Minis.

Outstanding Customer Service — Debbie Hughes (Pharmasave), Mo's Minis, The Wheels for Wellness Society.

Business of the Year — Bailey's In the Village, North Pacific Windows, Courtyard Cafe.

Volunteer of the Year —  Rosalee Sullivan, Pat Draper , Mike Haas.

Newsmaker of the Year — Jillian Cameron, Quality Foods, The Old School House.

2012 Citizen of the Year — Gary Hopkins, Dr. Verne McShane, Merlyn Patton.

Also to be presented is the Coastal Community Credit Union Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously to Gary Hopkins.

This gala on Wednesday, Feb. 20 begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Adrian Legin, CEO of Coastal Community Credit Union. To reserve for dinner and the awards presentations call the Chamber office at 250-752-0960.  Seating is limited.
