Doomed penny has a good use

It won't be long until the Canadian penny is going to be a thing of the past. That fact, says Netanja Waddell, makes it an ideal fundraising tool for the Qualicum Beach Museum.

The museum manager said she has begun a fundraiser for the museum to help fund its day-to-day operations.

She's aware it's not likely to raise enough for the planned museum expansion — being pennies and all — but every little bit helps. "We are  the keepers of history, so it's appropriate for us," she said of the fundraiser, called Pennies for Posterity.

Waddell said the museum is starting to ramp up for its big annual fundraiser, the renamed Trinkets and Treasures Sale, slated for Saturday, May 11.

Donations for the sale can be dropped off at the museum on Beach Avenue in Qualicum Beach on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
