A small fire in a bathroom fan at Parksville Beauty Salon Tuesday had a couple of ladies waiting outside in their plastic bonnets while fire fighters checked out the building.

Hirst Avenue had to be blocked off to traffic between the Alberni Hwy. and Craig Street while the ordeal was taking place.

Parksville fire chief Doug Banks said there was a bunch of smoke in the salon when crews arrived and staff had discharged the fire extinguisher. The fire crew took out the fan and disconnected the power and were on there way after about half an hour, he said.
