Firefighters collect tonnes of food in Parksville Qualicum Beach
THAT'S A LOT OF FOOD: Firefighters in Qualicum Beach (seen here), Parksville, and Dashwood all beat last year's totals for food collection during this year's annual Food Drive for the Salvation Army on the weekend. Parksville Fire Hall beat its all time record of 23,000 pounds of food by 235 pounds, while also collecting $4,537. Qualicum Beach fire hall beat last year's numbers, collecting 14,696 pounds of food and $2,512. Dashwood doubled last year's numbers with 2,352 pounds of food and $670. In total that is 40,283 pounds of food and $7,719 for the Salvation Army. Quality Foods donated all the bags, which were distributed in The NEWS free of charge, for the effort.
