Parksville White Spot to close in May

The Parksville White Spot restaurant just isn't doing enough business to remain open, according to the company.

"The lease is up May 31, 2014," said vice president of marketing Cathy Tostenson, "and it just doesn't make sense for us to continue at that location."

She said the Wembley Mall restaurant has struggled and, with other White Spot restaurants in North Nanaimo and Courtenay, it didn't make sense to renew the lease here.

They will be working with the employees to find work at other locations, she said, and they will be open for business as usual until the end of May.

"We are not giving up on the market," she said, and while they don't have any plans they may consider other Parksville locations in the future.

The 85-year-old, Vancouver-based chain has been at Wembley Mall since June, 2000.
