Announcement about changes to Wembley Mall in Parksville expected any day

Plans for a revitalization of Parksville's Wembley Mall are still in the works, according to Rick Halliday, property manager with Prospero Group, the owners of the mall.

"This is the slowest deal ever, but we're getting there," he said of plans for Save-On-Foods to build a neighbouring 4,831 sq.m (52,000 sq.ft.) stand alone store for which it already has building permits.

The idea that's been touted is for Canadian Tire to move into the vacated Save-On-Foods space, but Halliday said there are all kinds of little details to be worked out that depend on each other, making it a very complicated deal.

He said they are over the hump and could make an announcement any day.

Erin Wallace with Canadian Tire said the company is still eager to have a store in the Parksville area, but they are not ready to make any announcements.
