Body found near Milner Gardens identified

The B.C. Coroners Service has released the name of the woman found dead on the beach near Milner Gardens on Dec. 31 as Ingrid Lorenz, 59, of Courtenay.

Police had initially asked for the public's help identifying her since she didn't have I.D., but said that foul play was not suspected and she hadn't been there long.

Oceanside RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse Foreman previously said they'd notified the family but because foul play was not suspected, it was not a police file and they couldn't release the name.

Regional coroner Matt Brown confirmed the name and said an investigation is ongoing.
