RCMP recommend charges

Police say the 33-year-old suspect, a Parksville man, made his first appearance in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Wednesday afternoon. In a news release issued Wednesday morning, Oceanside RCMP said they have recommended charges of aggravated assault and robbery to Crown counsel.

On Thursday at approximately 2:40 a.m., Oceanside RCMP and BC Ambulance were called to a residence on Corfield Street north, after a stabbing was reported.

Police said preliminary reports indicated that at approximately 1:30 a.m., a 34 year-old Parksville man was walking up Corfield Street, towards downtown Parksville, when he was approached by two males in their late 20s or early 30’s. Police said a confrontation of some nature ensued, resulting in the victim being punched in the face and stabbed once in the back.

Police said the victim then proceeded to the highway where he flagged down a passing truck and received a ride to the Shell convenience store. Police said he later haled a taxi and went back to his residence before calling police.

The male was taken to hospital by B.C. Ambulance Services, where he received treatment for a collapsed lung. Police said he is expected to make a full recovery.
