Parksville resident Arthur Strang won $500,001 in a recent Lotto Max draw.

A couple months ago, retired Parksville senior Arthur Strang decided to start saying 'yes' to the Extra.

"I always thought it'd be great to get all four numbers on the Extra," Strang explained. "And my inkling paid off."

Strang got more than roses this Valentine's Day when he matched all four Extra numbers in the Feb. 14 Lotto Max draw winning himself $500,000 and an additional $1 for matching 1/4 on another Extra, for a total of $500,001.

Strang bought the ticket at the Parksville Thrifty Foods and returned there to check his ticket. When the machine indicated a big win, Strang said the man behind him asked if he would adopt him.

"None of us could believe our eyes."

The best part of the win for Strang was telling his daughter who returned from a vacation in Cuba a few days after his win.

"We were waiting for her in the kitchen," said Strang. "We flipped on the video camera to capture her reaction. She was in disbelief and then really excited!"

Strang said he plans to spend some of the money on his daughter before paying off the mortgage and a few debts.
