Making informed choices at the Health Fair in Parksville
The 19th annual Oceanside Family Health and Wellness Fair saw hundreds of people come out to the Parksville Community and Conference Centre over the weekend.
"It was a great success," said Lisa Leger, chair of the steering committee.
"We saw a lot more young people come out this year and the seminars were really well attended."
Leger said she was thrilled to see Parksville-Qualicum MLA Michelle Stilwell attend the event and take "the maiden voyage" of a brand new wheelchair accessible ramp that the PCC just acquired.
"We've been planning this event since November," said Leger. "It's so great to see the community, congeniality and fellowship of the vendors and the people who came."
Leger said the health fair is an important annual community event as it helps people become more confident in their health care decisions.
"People become better informed about prevention," said Leger. "Our health care crisis isn't because we don't' have enough doctors, it's because we aren't informed enough about preventative care — which in the end costs our health care system less money."
