Spring farm auction in Coombs this Sunday
The Coombs Farmers' Institute is hosting the 36th annual spring farm auction this Sunday, April 13 at the historic Coombs Fairgrounds.
A news release from the institute describes the auction as "a lively social event that brings together farmers, livestock producers, poultry lovers, gardeners, hopeful agriculture novices, foodies and tire-kickers."
Items for auction will include raspberry and strawberry starts, rhubarb plants, Egyptian "walking" onions in pots, infant herbs, floral perennials and fruit trees. Additionally, those wishing to augment their egg laying flock will find much to choose from in the poultry barn. As far as livestock goes there is traditionally a healthy assortment of calves, goats, sheep and pigs.
With the likelihood of the perfect piece of equipment, or parade of tools, being on offer to suit your need, can you afford to stay away?
The institute extends an open invitation to community members to celebrate their centenary. The funds raised by this event supply scholarships to deserving students furthering their agriculture related studies.
A significant opportunity is also on offer at this event — this chance to rub shoulders with and dialogue about the current issues affecting agriculture and food production should not be missed.
Viewing starts at 10 a.m. and the auction starts at 11 a.m. There is no buyers fee and lunch will be available from the 4-H concession.
