52 students to model 113 outfits at Kwalikum grad fashion show
Qualicum Beach is about to get fashionable with the annual Kwalikum Secondary School grad fashion show fundraiser on April 24.
"The students will be modelling a lot of beautiful clothes by a lot of mostly local stores," said parent organizer Fiona Wratislav.
The long running event attracts hundreds to the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre every year for one of the biggest grad fundraisers.
This year 52 students will model 113 outfits from a couple dozen stores, almost all in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.
"There will also be lots of great prizes, donors have been really generous," she said, adding, "There will be games, balloons with prizes and people can buy tickets for an iPad raffle in the end of May."
Donations for prizes and auction items include goods and services like a spa night at Tigh-Na-Mara.
The evening of entertainment will include both a silent and live auction during intermission, retailers showcasing their merchandise and fashions, a concession and student performances.
Along with the latest local fashions, as has become a tradition, they will also feature one prom dress made by a Grade 11 student who is graduating early and formal wear from the SOS Grad Ware program.
The SOS (Society of Organized Services) offers complete ensembles, including accessories, for $5 each and they recently recieved a huge new donation of 60 new dresses, some of which still have the tags on. Stop at the SOS office at 245 West Hirst Avenue or call 250-248-2093 to make an appointment to view the clothing anonymously.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and children under 12 and are available at Smithford's, Mod Apparel, the KSS office and at the door while they last. The event runs 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, 747 Jones Street.
