Youth focus for Parksville Hiring Fair on Wednesday
The Career Centre is working with PASS/Woodwinds, Kwalikum and Ballenas Secondary Schools to encourage youth wanting to learn about the local labour market, to attend the Spring Hiring Fair.
This event will be held this Wednesday from noon-4 p.m. at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre. Employers from 31 businesses have registered to take advantage of this opportunity to network with potential new employees, and youth are a primary focus.
A Career Centre news release said in speaking with participating employers, many indicated they are looking for students who have a good attitude and are eager and willing to work and learn new skills. Many employers are willing to provide on the job training for the right individual and opportunities range from part time to full time hours.
As well, Career Centre staff say they have been busy in local secondary schools providing Grad Transitions and Hiring Fair Preparation workshops.
"We are excited to work closely with schools, ensuring students have the opportunity to participate, whether it is the Spring Hiring Fair or workshops helping students prepare for employment after graduation" said Tracy Cargo, client services manager the The Career Centre.
The Career Centre said it is involved with youth in the community, recently teaming up with the RDN to host a Youth Career Night and now offering a screening of Sean Aitken's movie "One Week Job" at a Pizza and Movie Night, May 6 during Youth Week. Participants will have the opportunity to Skype with Sean Aitken after viewing this inspiring movie.
The Career Centre said it is committed to providing employment services to local youth whether it is offered through one-on-one support to assist with job search and preparation, in a group workshop held in the community, or through partnering with schools.
