A 30-year-old Qualicum Beach woman was arrested Monday following a break-in at Coombs Junction, RCMP reported Wednesday morning.

On April 24, at 1:20 a.m., a female broke into a business at the shopping complex located at the intersection of Highway 4 and 4A in Qualicum Beach. Once inside, the alarm activated and the female grabbed a few small items and fled.

The business had invested in an alarm and surveillance system, and members of the Oceanside RCMP General Investigation Section recognized the female immediately after reviewing the footage. Investigators then attended the woman’s Qualicum Beach home and arrested her within 24 hours of the crime.

The female has been released on conditions and will be making a first appearance in Nanaimo Provincial Court on May 23.

“This is another great example of a business owner investing in a surveillance system to better protect themselves,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman, RCMP spokesperson. “This surveillance was instrumental in helping investigators make a swift arrest backed by very sound evidence.”
