Lasqueti, Parksville projects up for building awards

10th annual VIREB awards to be announced April 20

Two Parksville building projects and the Judith Fischer Centre on Lasqueti Island are among the 28 finalists in the 10th annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards, which will be unveiled April 20 at the Coast Bastion Hotel.

Chinook Scaffold Warehouse and Guy Garages in Parksville are among the finalists in the annual awards, which celebrate the best in commercial, community and industrial buildings north of the Malahat on Vancouver Island that were completed between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016.

More than 50 projects were eligible this year for the awards, which are distributed in 11 categories: Institutional, Institutional Renovation, Retail Renovation, Office Renovation, Multi-Family Townhome, Multi-Family Apartment, Mixed Use, Industrial, Recreational, Retail and Green.

In addition to Lasqueti Island and Parksville, finalists represented projects and businesses in Campbell River, the Comox Valley, Duncan/Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo and Port Alberni.

Coastal Community Credit Union is a Gold Sponsor of the Awards. Category sponsors include the Canadian Western Bank, Re/MAX Commercial, Colliers International, the Business Development Bank of Canada, NAI Commercial, Herold Engineering, Invest Comox Valley and the Yellow Sheet Review.

One award has already been announced. The 2016 Judges’ Choice Award Winner for Best Overall Entry was the Blue Grouse Winery building in Duncan.
